In many provinces, certain photographs of Atatürk will be displayed for the first time and concerts and lectures will be held. Life will once more come to a halt at 09.05, the time when we lost the Father of the Nation.

The passing from among us of the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, will be commemorated with yearning on its 79th anniversary throughout the country, most notably at Atatürk’s mausoleum. It is noticeable that, this year, the AKP’s provincial and sub-provincial organisations are showing special interest in the commemoration ceremonies. The AKP Beşiktaş Sub-Province Chairship is organising a journey from Istanbul to Atatürk’s mausoleum.

Dolmabahçe will be the focus point for the commemorations to be held in Istanbul for the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Citizens will congregate at Dolmabahçe Palace, the place where Atatürk closed his eyes on life. The march to be staged by Beşiktaş Municipality will start at 8 am from in front of Sabancı Anatolian High School in Barbaros Avenue. All participants from seven to seventy will create a human chain as they march to Dolmabahçe Palace holding Turkish flags and Atatürk pictures.

Residents of Kadıköy, under the organisation of Kadıköy Municipality, will create a roughly six-and-a-half-kilometre “Five past Nine Chain of Respect for the Father of the Nation” between Fenerbahçe Military Recreation Quarters and Bostancı Shore. Everyone is invited to this event, expected to attract far greater participation this year, set to start at 8 am. Maltepe Municipality will host the “Dive in Respect for the Father” event in which 25 divers will take part. The commemorative events in Maltepe will see the creation of a “Chain of Respect for the Father of the Nation” along the shore and the recovering of an Atatürk photograph from the sea.

The programme to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the death of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk will start with the official programme at Atatürk’s mausoleum. The official ceremony will commence with the holders of high state office marching along the road flanked by lion statues. A wreath will be placed on Atatürk’s mausoleum at 9.05. Between the hours of nine and ten, when official ceremonies will be held, many roads in Ankara will be closed to traffic. It was further stated in an announcement made by Ankara Provincial Governate that, “It is felt that it would be appropriate for our citizens to visit Atatürk’s mausoleum after ten o’ clock to avoid overcrowding and waiting. Atatürk’s mausoleum will be open for visit between 10 am and 10 pm.” Additionally, President Tayyip Erdoğan will participate at a commemorative programme to be staged at the Presidential Palace. The Turkish Youth Association will commence a march from Tandoğan Gate at 11 am.

A giant Atatürk poster having a length of 350 metres will be opened on the “March in Respect for the Father of the Nation” to be staged for the tenth time by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu will also join the march set to commence at noon from in front of Alsancak Harbour. Additionally, the Contemporary Life Support Association will hold an “Understanding Atatürk” event. The event, that will start at 2 pm at the Istanbul Technical University Maçka Social Facilities Lecture Hall, will commence with an opening address by Contemporary Life Support Association General Chair Prof. Dr. Aysel Çelikel.
