According to the indictment compiled by Amasya Republic Chief Prosecution, an investigation was launched into five students named Ahmet Ş., Fuat T., Gülgün K., Serdal D. and Uğur D. who made posts and placed likes on social media and a search was made of their homes.
According to a report by Mesut Hasan Benli of Hürriyet newspaper, it was stated that two game CDs named “Black Hunter” and “Dragon Multibot” were seized at suspect Ahmet Ş.’s home and no criminal elements were detected during the investigation. It is also notable that the students were not “wanted persons” and had no records at the police. The likes cited as grounds for seeking the students’ conviction for the crime of terrorist organisation propaganda are listed one by one in the indictment.
Here are the likes deemed to be terrorism crimes:
-The song named “Come to the Mountains” by Grup Yorum and certain posted Kurdish music videos.
-Liking the Facebook page of the station named İMC TV that was closed under a decree with the force of law.
-Liking the Facebook account with user name Fuat Avni on which the state’s secret information was disclosed by FETO/PDY, the Facebook page of the website named Med Haber, the Facebook page of the publishing outlet named Özgür Gündem that was closed under a decree with the force of law and the Facebook page named Socialist Popular Platform.
It was argued in the indictment, “The suspects’ posts and comments on their Facebook and Twitter profiles individually fulfil the statutory elements of the offence of propaganda in a manner that will encourage resort to these methods that will legitimize or praise the methods involving force and violence of armed terrorist organisations.” The indictment has been accepted by Amasya Serious Crime Court. The trial will commence in November.
