BOTH SIDES WILL COME TO TERMS WITH IT
TRNC President Mustafa Akıncı made the assessment that ‘We are engaging in our generation’s last attempt’ at a solution in Cyprus. Akıncı said, ‘Greek Cypriots will share the federal central administration with us on the basis of political equality. They will come to terms with this and will make compromises in the matter of territory within the framework of the understanding that has been in place for ages.
·           Cyprus negotiations have been in progress for 50 years and everybody has become tired of them: The communities are tired and the world is tired.
·           Our interlocutors must understand that Turkish Cypriots do not see their security anywhere else but Turkey.
·           Greece and the Greek Cypriot side must most certainly abandon its ‘Zero soldiers, zero guarantees’ rhetoric.
Even if this appears not yet to have been officially recognised by the Greek Cypriot side, there will be a rotating presidency. A Greek Cypriot will be president for two years and a Turkish Cypriot for one.
