Reaction by Kılıçdaroğlu to the Netherlands: We are entitled to apply sanctions

Kılıçdaroğlu, saying it was impossible to accept that such a move was correct in a country that defends democracy, commented, ‘It is not at all correct. Those who defend democracy cannot do such a thing. You are going to tell us both that you are democratic and cancel the landing permission of one of the Republic of Turkey’s ministers. I do not consider this to be at all correct. It is wrong.’

MEETING WITH BLACK SEA ASSOCIATIONS

CHP General Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu came together with representatives of Black Sea associations, federations and foundations. The meeting was attended, along with Kılıçdaroğlu, by Deputy Parliamentary Speaker and Istanbul MP Akif Hamzaçebi and Istanbul Province Chair Cemal Canpolat.

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said in the speech he made here, ‘At whose desire are these things happening? Could it be that they are trying to get what they couldn’t get in the war of national salvation through this constitutional amendment? We all need to sit down and think. We will sit down, right from the beginning, from 16 July, and think as we decide They say about regime change, “There is no regime change.” In today’s regime, have all powers been given to one person? They have not. There is a democratic parliamentary system. In this model, all powers are with a single person. If this is not regime change, then what is it, for heaven’s sake? Are they telling tales to children?’

SINGLE PERSON REGIMES BRING BLOOD AND BRING TEARS TO A COUNTRY’

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said, ‘Single person regimes bring blood and bring tears to a country. If you want examples, be my guest and look at Libya. Is Qaddafi still there? And is Libya still there? There used to be Syria and there used to be Iraq. They want to turn Turkey into a Middle Eastern country in which blood and tears are shed. On top of that, they want to do it through a constitutional amendment.’

THE ONLY PERSON WHO HAS STOOD BY THE YENIKAPI SPIRIT IS THIS BROTHER OF YOURS YOU SEE BEFORE YOU’

Kılıçdaroğlu said, ‘They speak of the Ottoman, Ottoman, Ottoman. For sure, the Ottoman was our forefather. We are proud of the Ottoman. But we are prouder of the Republic of Turkey. Have we rejected out forefathers? No. So, if we are standing by our forefathers, standing by our history and standing by the rules they introduced, why are we dispensing with our parliamentary order? Why are we abandoning our parliamentary democratic system?’

Kılıçdaroğlu, recalling the speech he made at the Yenikapı rally, commented, ‘The only person who has stood by the Yenikapı spirit is this brother of yours you see before you. Whatever I said on 16 July, whatever I said at Yenikapı, whatever I said yesterday, I say the same thing today. I say the things I believe.’

THEY ARE TRYING TO SPREAD FEAR AND BUMP UP THE YESES’

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said, ‘They said we will call on our President to step down if “No” prevails. Why should we call on the President to step down? We did not elect the President; the people did. Is there a term? There is. Until 2019. He will serve as President until 2019. They are trying to spread fear and bump up the yeses. We say “No” fostering love, fostering friendship and voicing our call for a human existence.’

WE ARE PEOPLE OF THE ARMY OF NATIONAL SALVATION. WE LOVE OUR COUNTRY.

Kılıçdaroğlu commented, ‘Let them come out and address the following: which leader came under attack by the terrorist organisation on the way from Şavşat to Ardanuç, for heaven’s sake? Did they come under attack or did we come under attack? I love my country just as you do. I am fighting for this country’s wellbeing. We will fight together. Do not pay any attention to them, none at all. They want to drag us into a different discussion, on purpose. They seek discussion, not about the constitution, but about other things. We are not falling into the trap. Citizens must know about the dangers inherent in this constitutional amendment for them, their children and grandchildren. This is our concern. We have come out against terrorism everywhere and in all settings. We have not bowed our head. We will not do so, in any case. We are people of the Army of National Salvation. We love our country. I believe that each of our citizens loves their own country, too, and I draw no distinction. The flag is our flag. It is this clear and this blunt. They want to open up debate in a certain area and paper over the constitutional amendments. We will not fall into this trap.’

WHY ARE PROVINCIAL GOVERNORS APPLYING PRESSURE AND WHY ARE SUB-PROVINCIAL GOVERNORS APPLYING PRESSURE?’

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said, ‘We know that they have launched a “Yes” campaign. With their provincial governors, sub-provincial governors, army and police. Our campaign is the people’s campaign, not the state mechanism’s campaign. We trust our people. I trust these people. I trust the people’s common sense. I believe the people will stand up for democracy. Their provincial and sub-provincial governors get on the phone saying, ‘Look here, unless this number of yeses come from your village we will not bring you services.’ We know full well about this. They do not know this people. We know very well what the people will do to those who pressurise the people. It would appear that those provincial and sub-provincial governors have yet to learn that these people are attached to their own country. They go about things under instruction from above. Seeing that you are introducing a fine constitutional amendment for Turkey’s long-term good and for democracy, why are you not talking about it? Why are provincial governors applying pressure and why are sub-provincial governors applying pressure? Why are they applying duress to citizens and telling them to vote “Yes” without fail? This is because they know what they have done is wrong, is mistaken. If you are doing a fine thing, why do you not come out and tell the people the reasons why they should vote “Yes?” “If “No” prevails, there will be chaos and who knows what.” Never mind all that, brother, come out and tell us what you are bringing in with this constitutional amendment.’

NOT ONLY WILL THE KIDS OF THE GENTLEMEN IN ANKARA NOT GO TO THE ARMY, BUT THEY WILL BE MPS

Kılıçdaroğlu commented, ‘I will tell you why they are introducing this business about the age eighteen. First, it came in for the children of the gentlemen in Ankara. Secondly, they will be MPs. Thirdly, they will have lifetime exemption from military service. Fourthly, they will earn entitlement to retirement two years later. They will have the entitlement to a monthly pension of ten or fifteen thousand lira. Can there be a more cushy number than this? They are bringing it in for their own kids. Why are these things coming? Your kids and our kids will go to the army. Not only will the kids of the gentlemen in Ankara not go to the army, but they will be MPs and will earn entitlement to retirement in two years. They will get pensions of ten or fifteen thousand lira a month. There is something called conscience, there is something called morality and there is something called faith. They have none of these. This is what the business of the age eighteen is about. Spread the news everywhere. This is what it is about.’

‘YOU GET UP IN PUBLIC WITH TALK OF THE “DEATH PENALTY. DEATH PENALTY. IF IT COMES IN, ALL WILL BE WELL.” WHY DO YOU NOT INTRODUCE IT?’

Kılıçdaroğlu said, ‘You get up in public with talk of the “Death penalty. Death penalty. If it comes in, all will be well.” Why do you not introduce it? The Prime-Minister is yours, the ministers are yours, the civil servants are yours, the provincial governors are yours and the sub-provincial governors are yours. Mr Bahçeli also gives his support. If only you had introduced this as Article 19. I do not want to say too much about this matter. Politics is about voicing the truth to citizens on all matters. If political actors show the people one thing and run in the other direction, if they point to the right and hit to the left, this is not correct. Our people must know all of this.’

Kılıçdaroğlu commented, ‘In the new model, there is no need for a vote of confidence. It will not take place. So, what job will the MPs elected by the eighty million do in parliament? There is to be no vote of confidence and no interpellation. What job will they do? All powers having to do with the executive structure have in any case been given to the top. What will they do? It will not be long before they do the following. They will say, “There is no need for this parliament.” They will say, “The president issues all decrees. These 600 MPs are collecting salaries just for nothing. Let us shut this down.’ This is what it will come to. Then there will be no need to hold elections. “What need is there for elections? I am running the country anyhow. In my absence, I have an uncle, in fact, and he is in charge. My uncle runs things. What are you objecting to?” If anybody objects, he will say to the judge he will appoint, “Thrown them inside.”
