With it emerging from a survey commissioned by the AKP at the start of the march launched in the quest for justice by CHP General Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu that there is massive support for the march in society, it has transpired from a second survey conducted over perceptions about justice that 76 per cent of society thinks there is no justice in Turkey.

The AKP is reported to have commissioned two separate consecutive surveys into CHP General Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s Justice March. CHP Istanbul MP Barış Yarkadaş, indicating that society was questioned on two separate points in survey activity initiated on the third day of the march, stated that the first survey looked into society’s attitude towards the march. Yarkadaş, noting that the first survey, which investigated society’s attitude towards the march, was completed in a short time and the results were submitted to the AKP’s official committees, said, ‘It was observed in the survey that society viewed the march positively and the large majority gave its support. The AKP shaped its policy in line with the result of this survey.’ Yarkadaş indicated that the second survey commissioned by the AKP, on the other hand, was into perceptions about justice.

Assessment at the AKP

Yarkadaş, noting that in the said survey 76% of society expressed the opinion, ‘There is no justice in Turkey,’ stated that this survey result was subjected to serious assessment by the AKP. Yarkadaş commented as follows: ‘The factors leading to the emergence of this result from the survey are as follow: The maltreatment suffered by nearly one hundred thousand people who have been sacked under decrees with the force of law. No solution at all having been found for these people’s problems. Their being branded criminals despite the passage of months since their sackings and no investigation as yet having even been opened into them. These people not even knowing what they are accused of. Successive detentions of journalists. Indictments not yet having been drafted into the thousands of people who were detained or arrested in the aftermath of the 15 July coup attempt. The arbitrary decisions passed by penal judgeships of the peace. The launching of investigations into all kinds of opposition ideas voiced on social media.’

Society is thirsting for justice

The CHP’s Yarkadaş, noting that society had good reason for thinking as it does, said, ‘Because more than half of society has suffered at the hands of the judicial authorities. Virtually every fourth family in Turkey has a relative, son, daughter-in-law or cousin who has either been sacked under a decree with the force of law or is undergoing investigation. Judicial procedures drag out in these investigations and they do not end.  Hundreds of thousands of people are the victims of such injustice. As our march and the survey results show, society is thirsting for justice. Society finally wants justice and is making known that it has had its fill of the injustice committed by the ruling party itself.’
