Presiding judge tells Akın Atalay captains leave ship last

In the Cumhuriyet newspaper trial, the court bench ordered the release of our reporter Ahmet Şık and Editor-in-Chief Murat Sabuncu. The court bench ordered the extension of our Executive Board Chair Akın Atalay's detention. The court adjourned the next hearing until 16 March 2018.

The presiding judge, in announcing the decision to release, Ahmet Şık, alluded to Şık's mother Fatma Şık, whom Sözcü newspaper columnist Soner Yalçın mentioned in his column yesterday. The presiding judge, in announcing the decision to release Murat Sabuncu, commented, “He wants to see the Bosphorus, let him do so.” The presiding judge, addressing Akın Atalay whose detention he extended, said, “Captains are the last to leave the ship.”
