Turkey’s opposition HDP urges voters to vote for ‘most handsome candidate’

The Kurdish issue-focused party launched its social media campaign late on May 3 with a tweet featuring a video showing one of the speeches of Demirtaş, who is currently being held in a prison in the western province of Edirne.

“We are not going to cite any names, cast your vote for the most handsome,” read the tweet sent from the HDP’s official Twitter account.

As of midday May 4, the tweet was liked more than 7,500 times, while the number of retweets surpassed 2,700.

Demirtaş was arrested on Nov. 4, 2016, on terror charges and faces decades in prison. He was named as the presidential candidate of the HDP for the June 24 presidential elections.
