The word “T A M A M,” meaning “enough” in English, was tweeted more than two million times, with opposition party leaders expressing their support to the latest social media campaign.

While the number of tweets kept increasing at an incredible speed, to many’s surprise, the idea for the campaign was indirectly given by Erdoğan himself earlier in the day.

They have one concern only and that is to topple Erdoğan. If our people say ‘enough’ one day, then we can step aside,” Erdoğan said in a speech, referring to opposition leaders who formed an alliance for the elections.

The people will give them the necessary answer on June 24. God willing, I believe that we will teach a lesson to this destruction team,” he also said.

A short while later, tweets reading “enough” started to be sent on Twitter, with the word entering worldwide trending list and staying there for hours.

Turkey is set to head to polls on June 24, with two opposing alliances, as well as the Kurdish issue-focused Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) contesting in the elections.

The first alliance was formed by the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), which was followed by the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), the İYİ (Good) Party, the Felicity Party (SP) and the Democrat Party (DP) also forming a bloc.

While Erdoğan is the joint presidential candidate of the AKP and the MHP, the other parties named their own candidates.

Muharrem İnce, the CHP’s presidential candidate, wrote “enough” twice on his official Twitter account, while the party’s leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said “It will be over on June 24.”

Another presidential candidate to support the “T A M A M” craze was İYİ Party leader Meral Akşener, who wrote the phrase with the hashtag #TurkeyWillBeGood.

There is an enough that comes from the skies,” Akşener also said, referring to a famous poem cited by Erdoğan frequently.

Felicity Party leader Temel Karamollaoğlu, meanwhile, said, “God willing, it will be enough!”

Selahattin Demirtaş, the HDP’s imprisoned former co-chair and current presidential candidate, also tweeted “enough” through his lawyers, while the party’s co-chair Pervin Buldan tweeted, “Another enough comes from me.”

Political figures weren’t the only ones tweeting “enough,” as thousands of Twitter users joyously expressed their opinions by using the word, making the number of tweets surpass two million.

In return, Erdoğan’s supporters also launched a Twitter campaign, sending tweets reading, “DEVAM,” meaning “keep going” in English, though the number remained significantly lower than the former campaign. (Çeviri: Neşe İdil)
