Criminal complaint against Berat Albayrak

Independent parliamentary candidate for Istanbul No 1 Region from the This Order Must Change Platform, Aydemir Güler, today filed a criminal complaint against AKP No 1 Region parliamentary candidate Berat Albayrak. The messages that Albayrak sent to all voters by phone provoked a huge outburst. Güler states that unauthorised disclosure and use of personal data is an offence and has called on all citizens to file a criminal complaint.

Independent parliamentary candidate for Istanbul No 1 Region from the This Order Must Change Platform, Aydemir Güler, today filed a criminal complaint against AKP No 1 Region parliamentary candidate Berat Albayrak for unauthorised access and use of personal data and breach of the rules governing personal data. Albayrak sent messages by mobile phone to No 1 Region voters twice last week. Many citizens voiced their reaction on social media noting their disquiet over this situation and that their phone numbers had been accessed without permission.

Güler filed a criminal complaint against today against AKP No 1 Region parliamentary
candidate Berat Albayrak for breach of Article 55/B of the Law on Basic Provisions on
Elections and Voter Registers.
The article in question covers provisions on canvassing through communication instruments
and the internet. After Berat Albayrak sent messages by phone to No 1 Region voters twice
last week, there was a huge public outburst. Citizens said that their phone numbers being
accessed and disclosed this way was a breach of personal data use and they expressed their
reactions on social media.

Güler, who also wishes the entity that enabled the unauthorised access of personal data to be
identified, called on everyone to make a criminal complaint over the matter.
