ASSAD AND THE OPPOSITION AT THE SAME TABLE IN ASTANA
Talks between the Syrian government and the opposition, under Russia-Iran-Turkey’s guarantee, start today in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana. At the talks slated to last 24 hours, the armed opposition and the Assad government will sit down directly at the same table for the first time. Turkish Foreign Ministry officials have commented, ‘The basic goal of Astana is lasting peace.’
