RELIGIOUSLY OUT OF BOUNDS
Expert testimony given to the parliamentary commission investigating the fire at the hostel in Aladağ has revealed that the hostel went uninspected thanks to cronyism. Expert Bekir Metin Demir said that the girls’ hostel had not been inspected because it was ‘religiously out of bounds.’
WE DON’T ENTER IT MUCH
Demir said, ‘We asked the management board, “Why didn’t you inspect the hostel?” and they said, “Well, you know, we don’t enter that place much because it’s a girls’ hostel”.’ Demir determined that curtains had been placed over the fire doors to obstruct the view inside and these curtains had fed the fire.
