Armed attack on young CHP members putting up ‘No’ posters in Istanbul Maltepe.
Young CHP members who were putting up ‘No’ posters in Maltepe’s Zümrütevler were first harassed by a group who showed ‘Police Newspaper’ ID cards. The group then followed the CHP members in the attempt to find out where they lived. The CHP’s Muharrem D. underwent an armed attack on his way home after having dropped his friends off and suffered two bullet wounds. One person is under arrest and two are being sought in connection with the attack.
CHP members flood to the hospital
Following the events in Maltepe, CHP members have flooded to the hospital and expressed their outrage at the attack. CHP Istanbul MP Barış Yarkadaş said, ‘The government is politically honour bound to find the assailants and to see to it that those who gave the orders are held accountable.’ CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Cemal Canpolat and CHP Group Deputy Chair Engin Altay also visited Muharrem D. in hospital.
