If they cannot be teachers
Some fascinating suggestions have emanated from Ministry of National Education’s Teacher Placement Director, Semih Aktekin. Aktekin, saying that one million teachers are competing for 100,000 vacancies, commented, ‘The figures are there for all to see. For example, there are no vacancies in history. What can a history graduate do? They can be a tourist guide.’

Aktekin, addressing a symposium entitled ‘Forecasts in Education’ said, ‘Graduates of teacher training faculties are describing themselves as “teachers unable to secure placement.” Are these university graduates who are seeking work, or teachers unable to secure placement? We need to change the way we conceptualise definitions.’
