Additionally, the hearing prosecutor of the Serious Crime Court No 25 objected to a higher court about eight of the 21 journalists whose release was ordered today. Istanbul Serious Crime Court No 26, which has accepted the objection, has ordered the apprehension of the eight people in question.

In the trial before Istanbul Serious Crime Court No 25 into the Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organisation involving 29 defendants, 26 of whom had been remanded in custody, the court bench today ordered the release of 21 defendants, including singer Atilla Taş. The prosecution applied to a higher court and objected to the decision to release the defendants Ahmet Memiş, Bayram Kaya, Cemal Azmi Kalyoncu, Cuma Ulus, Habip Güler, Halil İbrahim Balta, Hanım Büşra Erdal and Muhammed Said Kuloğlu. The higher court, Istanbul Serious Crime Court No 26, which has accepted the objection, has ordered the issuing of apprehension warrants for the said eight defendants.

On the other hand, Istanbul Republic Chief Prosecution ordered the rearrest on the grounds of attempting a coup of 13 of the 21 journalists whose release had been ordered today. The names of those involved are: Gökçe Fırat Çulhaoğlu, Yakup Çetin, Bünyamin Köseli, Cihan Acar, Abdullah Kılıç, Oğuz Usluer, Ali Akkuş, Atilla Taş, Hüseyin Aydın, Murat Aksoy, Mustafa Erkan Acar, Seyid Kılıç and Yetkin Yıldız. At the behest of the Chief Prosecution, arrest warrants were issued for these people on the charges of ‘attempting to overthrow the constitutional order’ and ‘attempting to overthrow the government of the Republic of Turkey’.

Following the release order, relatives waiting in front of Silivri Prison were removed from the front of the prison on security grounds. Families were sent about one kilometre away from the gate under intense security measures taken by the gendarmerie. The wait by the families continues.
