A number of roads have recently been blocked by PKK supporters in eastern and southeastern Turkey in protest of ongoing construction activities for new army posts in the area. One of the roads blocked was Lice road in Diyarbakir province, where an intervention of gendarmerie forces took place on Wednesday which led to a clash. Pro-PKK protestors threw fireworks, stones, and homemade explosives during the intervention. 5 soldiers were wounded during the protestors’ response to the security forces’ intervention.

A second intervention took place on Saturday, and left two protestors dead. They suffered severe bullet injuries before dying in hospital while under treatment.

Protestors in Hakkari province of southeastern-most Turkey clashed with security forces on Monday during a pro-Kurdish BDP marching in the area. Police used water cannons and tear gas while the group hurled Molotov cocktails and stoned at the security forces in response.
