Parliamentary speaker intervenes over Selahattin Demirtaş
The denial of permission for visits to HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş and the other detained MPs by their colleagues has come onto the parliamentary agenda. It has been learnt that Parliamentary Speaker İsmail Kahraman will intervene over the matter.
HDP Deputy Group Chair Filiz Kerestecioğlu stated that until now 95 hearings had been held into Demirtaş and he had made applications to participate at all of them, all of which had been denied. Kerestecioğlu, noting the comment made at the most recent court at which there was a hearing: “He cannot be brought to the hearing due to pressure of business,” said that this was discrimination. CHP Deputy Group Chair Özgür Özel also commented, “The HDP parliamentarians have been unable to get permission for months to visit their own co-chair and deputy group chairs.”
“INJUSTICE”
According to a report by Rıfat Başaran of Hürriyet, Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Yaşar Tüzün, for his part, commented, “We have also held a meeting with our parliamentary speaker and the four deputy parliamentary speakers. And our speaker has said he will hold discussions with the Ministry, Government and Prime-Minister and this is an injustice and these visits should take place.”
