İbrahim Şahin says, “The appointments were made within the context of the state’s general policy with a board of directors’ resolution and the approval or permission of the ministry to which it reported.”
Concerning what?
It having transpired that 84% of the appointees to the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) in the period he served as chair of the board of directors were “FETOists”.
Alican Uludağ’s lead story in yesterday’s Cumhuriyet is one of the most important pieces of evidence of the AKP-FETO partnership.
Şahin is openly blaming the government and deputy prime-ministers of the day to which the TRT reported: “I did not know that those coming from the Samanyolu group were FETOists. They were permitted to transfer because their editorial policy was seen as being pro-government, pro-state and pro-AK Party.”
He is clearly saying, “The government wanted this and we took them on.”
He is explaining that the Gulenists infiltrated the ranks of nearly all the state’s institutions, not just the TRT, “thanks to the positive attitude displayed towards them.”
Who was it that displayed the positive attitude? The AKP.
Şahin makes these confessions, and what is the upshot?
The file is closed under a decision to discontinue the proceedings. The file is closed, but the truth is not. Istanbul’s former provincial governor and former police chief were detained for being “FETOists”. Former police chief Hüseyin Çapkın gets out under Mehmet Ağar’s “bail”, while former provincial governor Avni Mutlu remains in detention. What does an “informant” former police chief say when testifying as a witness before a court?
“There were 120 police chiefs in Istanbul. 75-80 of them were from the Gulenists. In Turkey as a whole, this percentage does not fall below seventy among those in senior ranks. As to police officers, I do not imagine that it would be below fifty per cent.”
The presiding judge asks Çapkın:
“Did you not notice at that time that there were so many FETOists in the police?”
What does Çapkın say?
“Had one-tenth of today’s information been known then, we would certainly have exposed them. But, at that time, it was not known in this way that they were FETOists.”
You will realise that the provincial governor and police chief appointed by the government were aware of the “FETOist” formation. They are standing trial, but those who appointed them continue to whistle in innocence.
The former mayor of Adana’s Ceyhan was detained on “FETO” charges the day before yesterday. He was not from any old party like the CHP, but the AKP.
He was expelled from the AKP under accusations of corruption, bringing influence to bear in appointing his wife as deputy mayor and conducting procedures based on self-interest in planning implementations.
Alemdar Öztürk was removed from office on 15 June.
Now, he has been arrested along with three municipal assembly members, four municipal employees and two members of Ceyhan Chamber of Commerce, and placed in detention charged with transferring funds and providing finance to FETO from the municipality. You have now realised the depth of their partnership with the Gulenists, the butt of their constant talk of, “until they have been pulled out by the roots.” Pull out one and the other comes out from beneath.
It comes down to their having decided whom they are to proclaim traitors and whom they are to continue on the same path with. Or, do those who “sold to them lot by lot” not also need to be brought before the courts?
These three incidents alone are evidence, not of how “FETO” infiltrated the entire institutions of the state, but of how it was installed there. And this business can neither be closed nor atoned for by just closing files or the Court of Cassation speaking of “unavoidable error”.
To hunt down the wanted criminals, it would suffice if they took an occasional look in the mirror.
