President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced the first cabinet of the new system. Four figures from parliament are included in the new cabinet.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced his first cabinet of the Presidential Government System at the Presidential Palace.
“I HAVE READIED IT WITHOUT HINDRANCE”
Erdoğan said the following in the speech he made prior to announcing the cabinet list:
“Our democracy proved its worth on the night of 15 July with our nation’s blood and lives. 24 June came as the highest proof of this worth. An election the like and equivalent of which has not been seen in the world was held. I hope that it bodes well for our country and people. I will now perform my task as president of the 81 million. I will be glad to walk along with everyone who has love of the nation in their heart. I wish to thank the MHP here, chiefly in the form of Chair Bahçeli. God willing, we will also continue our cooperation with the MHP in parliament. We have set up our new system with the presidency as the central organisation and our ministries and economic policies in prime place. I also conveyed information about our new administrative architecture on television programmes before the election. The new decrees with the force of law have been promulgated in the Official Gazette. Immediately after this, I promulgated Presidential Decree number 1. Along with this, I am determined to make the new system permeate all the cells of our state from the very top to bottom. There remains no right to hide behind any excuse when it comes to the executive duty vested in the President. I will work night and day with my team. I have readied my cabinet in the new period without any hindrance. I have reduced this to seventeen along with the deputy president. I have combined some ministries and dispensed with some.
Accordingly, the list of ministers included in the cabinet is as follows:
Deputy President: Fuat Oktay
Minister of Justice: Abdülhamit Gül
Minister of the Interior: Süleyman Soylu
Minister of National Defence: Hulusi Akar
Minister of National Education: Ziya Selçuk
Minister of Health: Fahrettin Koca
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources: Fatih Dönmez
Minister of Environment of Urbanisation: Murat Kurum
Minister of Culture and Tourism: Mehmet Ersoy
Minister of Youth and Sport: Mehmet Kasapoğlu
Minister of the Treasury and Finance: Berat Albayrak

Minister of Labour, Social Services and Family: Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry: Bekir Pakdemirli

Erdoğan, who in 2015 proclaimed the need for a change of system with the words, “Just as a joint-stock company is managed, this is how Turkey will be managed,” spoke of it in the following terms while appearing on a live broadcast prior to the elections: “There is a comment of mine: ‘Managing the country like a joint-stock company,’ and this point is important. Otherwise, you fall into the hands of civil servants and technocrats and you cannot manage the country properly.”
The businessmen included in the cabinet list that Erdoğan announced came as a notable first step towards “company-like management.”
In the cabinet, proprietor of ETS Turizm, Murat Ersoy, became Minister of Tourism, Chair of Medipol University’s Board of Trustees and Board of Directors, Fahrettin Koca, became Minister of Health, while proprietor of the Maya Schools, Ziya Selçuk, became Minister of Education.
