Medication price rise opportunism
One month’s prior notice, hoarders go into action and the sick pay the price
With a ten percent increase in medication prices having been announced for 20 February in line with the rise in the dollar, it has emerged that certain pharmaceutical companies and warehouses are not supplying medicines to pharmacies. Istanbul Chamber of Pharmacists General Secretary Serdar Göksan, commenting, ‘They will market the medicine they have in stock at the increased price,’ says that nine out of ten imported medicines are unobtainable right now.
NO PAIN KILLERS EVEN
Former Istanbul Chamber of Pharmacists Chair, Semih Güngör, has stated that above all pain killers and medicines needed for blood-pressure, cancer and blood complaints are unobtainable. Güngör said, ‘For as long as the exchange rate carries on rising, the problems with medicine will remain in place.’ As to the sick, unable to get hold of medication, they battle it out on pharmacists.
