The MHP’s Mardin Provincial Chair Veysi Oğuz has reacted to the comment made in recent days by AKP Mardin MP Orhan Miroğlu that, ‘We did not see a more vigorous counterpart at the grass roots to the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP)’s cooperation with the AK Party in parliament.’
MHP Chair Oğuz issued a written statement and said these words were unfortunate and were aimed at blame shifting so as divert attention from the deep split and division within the AKP.
Oğuz commented, ‘We would recommend that Mr Orhan Miroğlu, prior to making unfortunate comments about the Nationalist Movement Party, turn and look at the mirror. The comment he made served to divert attention from the deep split and division within the AKP and shift the blame. We know as well as him what purpose the comment serves. If there is failure, he must seek this in his own party and policies. I recommend that he analyse the way the president’s chief adviser’s unfortunate comment about federal provinces and federation two or three days before the referendum played out at the grass roots. There is also no way that he can be unaware of the negative deeds of new and old MPs who have served as president, prime-minister and ministers in past periods. He has no need to look for a scapegoat. He will gain nothing from blame shifting with hostility towards the MHP and engaging in cheap politics. It would behove him far more to conduct self-criticism. Furthermore, if there is one last person who should speak of the political counterpart at the grass roots, this is Mr Orhan Miroğlu. Mr Miroğlu, who has no base and was elected purely with his excellency the President’s votes at the grass roots and floating votes, must indeed know what a grass roots counterpart is.’
