With German state television alleging that the AKP’s Metin Külünk is giving financial support to Osmanen Germania, the Free Democrat Party’s Hans-Ulrich Rülke has said, “Erdoğan is creating a paramilitary support unit in Germany.”

With a probe having been launched into the foreign links of the Osmanen Germania gang to which AKP member of parliament Metin Külünk is alleged to have funded, the FDP’s Hans-Ulrich Rülke has said, “Erdoğan is forming a paramilitary support unit in Germany.”

According to a report by DW Turkish, the police force in the German state of Baden-Württemberg is to investigate whether the gang named “Osmanen Germania” is under political control from abroad. Baden-Württemberg police chief Klaus Ziwey stated they will look into whether the Osmanen Germania gang, which also has boxing clubs, has foreign connections. Ziwey also added that the gang named Osmanen Germania has ties with the Union of European Turkish Democrats (UETD). The UETD is recognised by the German Foreign Ministry as being the AKP’s unofficial foreign organisation.

Accusation by Rülke

The Free Democrat Party’s Baden-Württemberg state parliament group chairperson Hans Ulrich Rülke demanded that the UETD be monitored by the state’s internal intelligence unit and on a Germany-wide scale. Rülke said in a comment he made to the Stuttgarter Nachrichten newspaper, “My impression is that Turkish President Erdoğan is creating a paramilitary support unit in Germany to achieve his political goals.” Green Party Co-Chair Cem Özdemir, in turn, said, “The long arm of Erdoğan has no business in Germany.”

Gang wars in Germany

Reportedly, frequent clashes have taken place in the state of Baden-Württemberg between the nationalist Osmanen Germania and the gang named “Bahoz” set up by Kurds and the tension that flared up in the final month of 2016 has since died down. Baden-Württemberg police chief Ziwey has indicated that many gang members are being held in detention pending trial. From information that has been imparted, numbering among these people are all of the figures at the head of the Osmanen Germania gang and certain members of Bahoz. The Osmanen Germania gang, against which raids were staged in various German states last year, stands accused of crimes such as trading in arms, money laundering, blackmail and forging documents.
