Kılıçdaroğlu and Akşener discuss return to parliamentary system

Good Party General Chair and presidential candidate Meral Akşener met with CHP General Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at CHP Headquarters. Following the meeting, Kılıçdaroğlu and Akşener made a joint statement.

 Meral Akşener indicated that she imparted to Kılıçdaroğlu her observations and knowledge about the creation of an improved parliamentary system. Kılıçdaroğlu said, “Election campaigning is taking place in a relaxed atmosphere. Despite all the pressures, despite the government’s pressures, we have set out on the road to bring the democratic parliamentary system to this country. We are marching on this road.”

 Good Party leader Meral Akşener came to CHP Headquarters. Following the meeting, Akşener and Kılıçdaroğlu posed for the press. A return to the parliamentary system was discussed at the meeting.

 In the statement she made following the meeting, Akşener, stating that the timetable for a return to the parliamentary system in the event of victory in the presidential and parliamentary elections was discussed, said, “I have also spoken to Mr Temel Karamollaoğlu and he also regarded the discussing of this matter positively. I passed this on as one of the leaders of the Nation Alliance.”

 “WE DISCUSSED THE PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM”

 Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, in turn, commented as follows:

 “I thank her excellency the General Chair. Despite all the obstacles, despite the government’s pressures, we have set out on the road to bring the democratic parliamentary system to this country and to make parliament stronger. What our citizens expect of us is: OK, you have attained the majority in parliament and you have taken the presidential election, so how are you going to go about speedily returning to a parliamentary system? Her excellency the General Chair had a proposal. This was a major proposal from our point of view. We will bring it about together. We spoke about how we would strengthen the parliamentary system, how we would remove the obstacles in front of Turkey and how we would separate the entire legal system from coup law. I thank her excellency the General Chair once more.”

 After the CHP’s presidential candidate Muharrem İnce had spoken of envisaging a two-year transitional period, Akşener called out at the meeting at which she announced her electoral manifesto to the parties included in the Nation Alliance and proposed that a road map be laid out for a return to the parliamentary system.

 SHE WILL SUBSEQUENTLY SPEAK TO THE SP LEADER

 Good Party General Chair Akşener, who argues that the return to the parliamentary system must be completed as soon as possible, will come together with Felicity Party (SP) General Chair Temel Karamollaoğlu following Kılıçdaroğlu. The two leaders fixed an appointment in the course of a phone call with an eye on their rally programmes.
