Act two in the Zarrab case

Halkbank Deputy CEO Mehmet Hakan Atilla has been detained at New York’s JFK Airport. It is alleged that Atilla conspired against the USA along with Reza Zarrab, whose trial is continuing in the USA. The US Department of Justice claims that Atilla cheated the USA by falsely classifying embargoed transactions.
Given the accusations against Halkbank, the way that Atilla flew directly to New York and was arrested invites speculation that he may be acting as an informant. Hours earlier, Zarrab added two individuals with close Trump connections to his defence team. Economy minister Zeybekçi says the timing is significant.
