Justice March statement from Selahattin Demirtaş

HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş has said that he has no request for the Justice March to continue as far as Edirne F-Type Prison where he is being held in detention. Demirtaş has stated that, ‘He attaches importance to the march moving on to secure justice for all not as a slogan but in practice.’

HDP Group Deputy Chair Ahmet Yıldırım has passed on the statement with reference to the Justice March made by his party’s detained Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, ‘I have no request for there to be a march to Edirne’.

The HDP has announced that it will make a support visit to the Justice March from Ankara to Istanbul launched by CHP General Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu following the detention of the party’s Istanbul MP Enis Berberoğlu in the intelligence agency lorries trial.

The HDP’s Yıldırım, who spoke to Özlem Akarsu Çelik from Gazete Duvar, said the following:

‘Selahattin said that the crux of the matter is not marching to Edirne but the need for the march to aim at uniting of all sections of the opposition. He states that the issue is one of a ‘need for justice’ that goes beyond ending his own state of detention and victimhood, and, to this end, declares that he attaches importance to the march moving on to secure justice for all not as a slogan but in practice.

‘Move beyond obscure rhetoric’

Selahattin points out that the effort by social dynamics to jointly straighten the country out is important and it is necessary to move beyond obscure rhetoric and make social opposition permanent.’

The HDP’s statement

The HDP has made the following statement with reference to the march:

‘Tomorrow (Monday 3 July), our Co-Chair Serpil Kemalbay, Deputy Co-Chairs Saruhan Oluç and Sezai Temelli, Central Executive Committee members Beyza Üstün and Murat Mıhçı, Group Deputy Chair Ahmet Yıldırım, MPs Celal Doğan, Erol Dora, Ertuğrul Kürkçü, Feleknas Uca and Mithat Sancar and Mardin Metropolitan Co-Mayor Ahmet Türk will make a support visit to the Justice March. Our delegation will make a statement in front of Kandıra Prison at 2 pm.’
