UNITED METALWORKERS UNION STRIKE BANNED BY CABINET RESOLUTION
Workers forced to take up tools
With talks failing to achieve a result at Asil Çelik works in Bursa’s Orhangazi, the United Metalworkers Union strike slated to start yesterday morning has been postponed for 60 days under a Cabinet resolution. The postponement resolution, taken on the grounds that it was deemed to be of a ‘nature that will impair national security’ amounts to a de-facto ban.
United Metalworkers Union Chair, Adnan Serdaroğlu, expressed his anger at the postponement resolution. Serdaroğlu said, ‘We are workers, we are toilers, we are the ones who keep this economy going. Why are you banning our constitutional right and depriving our children of their sustenance? Even if we are banned, we are in the right.’
