THEY ARE JOURNALISTS, NOT TERRORISTS
Erdoğan is guilty of slander and casting aspersions
The wives of our remanded columnists and managers have voiced their reaction to President Erdoğan’s comment that the imprisoned journalists are ‘terrorists’. The wives reminded the president of the independence of the judiciary and the presumption of innocence.
· ADALET DİNAMİT: Is there no presumption of innocence? Does this rhetoric not influence judges? How and based on what do you know this?
· EYLEM SABUNCU: I consider it futile even to reply to these unfounded aspersions. However, the first thing to come to mind when I heard them was the Izmir March.
· SİNEM KARA: My husband is a respected journalist of 36 years’ standing. He lives for his professional and human honour. These comments are extremely unbecoming.
· SEVİNÇ KART: The crimes of slander and casting aspersions have been committed with these comments directed at people whose only business is journalism.
· SEMRA ÇELİK: I expect him to correct these words immediately and apologise to us and our children.
· ÇAĞLAYAN ÖZ: This means that a secret list that we do not know about is passing around. ‘Terrorist’ is even entered against their names.
· NAZİRE GÜRSEL: These comments make the question of why the indictment is not being drafted all the more relevant.
GÜLSÜN SOP: They are not terrorists, but free-thinking impartial journalists and lawyers fighting for press freedom.
