Arrested CJA Chair Selçuk Kozağaçlı threatens to stop taking water and sugar

According to a report by Hacı Pişkin of Gazete Duvar, Selçuk Kozağaçlı, General Chair of the Contemporary Jurists Association (CJA), which was closed under a decree with the force of law, was arrested yesterday and taken to Vatan police station in Istanbul.

Kozağaçlı, attorney of academic Nuriye Gülmen and teacher Semih Özakça, who have put the 245^th day of their hunger strikes behind them, and himself on hunger strike, has said through his colleagues “If I am not taken to the prosecution within four days, I will also stop taking water and sugar.”
 
BAR ASSOCIATION CHAIRS’ REQUEST FOR A MEETING DECLINED

CJA Istanbul Branch Chair Gökmen Yeşil said that they requested talks with the prosecution on the matter twice yesterday, but the prosecution declined requests for a meeting. Yeşil imparted the following information:
 
“Selçuk Kozağaçlı was on hunger strike when he was arrested. He has said, ‘I will stop taking water and sugar if I am not taken to the prosecution within four days.’ He is currently still being held at the police. The Bursa and Antalya bar association chairs have also requested meetings with the prosecution. But this request by the bar association chairs has been declined, too. We also asked to speak to the Deputy Chief Prosecutor and he likewise declined the bar association chairs’ request for a meeting.”
