Digital drugs
Tablets, smartphones and game consoles have a ‘cocaine-like’ effect on kids
Those indispensable items of daily life that are hardly ever out of the hands of above all children, tablets, smartphones and game consoles, have been described by scientists as ‘digital drugs’.
New research conducted abroad has shown that with children tablets and mobile phones have the same effect as cocaine on the front cortex of the brain, one of whose functions is to control impulses. This means that children can become aggressive if you try to drag them away from the computer screen.
American researcher Dr Nicholas Kardaras says that it is easier to treat an adult heroin addict than a social-media addict child. Kardaras points out that Silicon Valley managers send their children to technology-free schools.
