Taksim closed to workers on 1 May
Following a meeting held between Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu and Confederation of Revolutionary Workers Unions Chair Kani Beko, it has been announced that 1 May Workers’ Day will not be celebrated in Taksim.

In discussions held between Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu and Confederation of Revolutionary Workers Unions Chair Kani Beko, the Confederation of Revolutionary Workers Unions’ request to celebrate 1 May in Taksim Square received a negative reply from Minister Soylu.
Minister of the Interior Süleyman Soylu met Confederation of Revolutionary Workers Unions Chair Kani Beko at the ministry. At the meeting, at which the issue of 1 May celebrations in Taksim Square in Istanbul was raised, it has been learnt that Minister Soylu replied negatively to the Confederation of Revolutionary Workers Unions’ request to hold celebrations.
It has been learnt that Confederation of Revolutionary Workers Unions Chair Kani Beko will also have a meeting with Istanbul Provincial Governor Vasip Şahin later on and will make a statement following that meeting.
