In the statement he made following Republican People’s Party (CHP) General Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s meeting with Felicity Party (SP) General Chair Temel Karamollaoğlu, he touched on fifteen of his party’s MPs transferring to the Good Party. Kılıçdaroğlu said, “We for sure defend democracy. The making by a political ruling body having a grip on power of a special effort to exclude a party from the election and its influencing state bodies is not an event that we can be comfortable with.”

SP General Chair Temel Karamollaoğlu visited General Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at CHP headquarters. The meeting was also attended by CHP Deputy General Chairs Bülent Tezcan, Haluk Koç and Lale Karabıyık, CHP Parliamentary Group Deputy Chair Engin Altay and Istanbul MP Mehmet Bekaroğlu.

“And not everyone can do this”

Following the discussions lasting one hour, SP General Chair Temel Karamollaoğlu had the following to say in the statement he made to members of the press:

“We are hectic because the elections are approaching. We are making a variety of contacts to enable us to contest the election in a more positive atmosphere. We held a great meeting. There will be results of some kind from these meetings over this week. Of course, we have spoken of a snap election. Some people retort that we both speak of it being snap and say, ‘We are ready for the election.’ What does this mean? Well, the meaning I have spoken of. They have put our two feet in one shoe. Even when getting your jacket from home and coming out, there is a coming out that takes two or three minutes. There is also a coming out casually in fifteen to twenty minutes. The ruling body has resolved to hold an election in an air of panic without giving this opportunity. Of course, I congratulated the General Chair and his colleagues, because Turkey may have been about to suffer an accident. The Good Party, which has a certain potential, would have faced the possibility of being unable to contest the election. The gesture they made was basically important in the sense of contributing towards democracy. And not everyone can do this, because at the end of the day the citizen who casts their vote will exercise their right to vote and cannot do anything else. Hence, we have currently seen that basically, over and above our own parties’ interests, there is a need for close cooperation in certain matters relating to our country’s future. I think that efforts along these lines will bear fruit over the week.”

“We defend democracy”

CHP leader Kılıçdaroğlu, in turn, remarked as follows in the statement he made following his discussions with SP General Chair Temel Karamollaoğlu:

“We have held a productive meeting with his excellency the General Chair and his colleagues. We are all excited, but excitement is a great thing. God willing, we will wake up on 25 June to a smiling Turkey. The support we gave the Good Party – we for sure defend democracy. The making by a political ruling body having a grip on power of a special effort to exclude a party from the election and its influencing state bodies is not an event that we can be comfortable with. The upcoming elections are not individual elections, not one party’s or two parties’ issue; the issue is the issue of Turkey. We all want to live together in harmony in Turkey. In connection with this, the steps to strengthen democracy taken by the Felicity Party are most valuable steps.”

Reply to Abdullah Gül question

To the question, “Is Abdullah Gül's candidacy on the cards?” Karamollaoğlu responded, “The correct reply to your question will be forthcoming at the weekend.” CHP Deputy General Chair Bülent Tezcan received Karamollaoğlu on his arrival at CHP headquarters. Featuring in the discussions held with Kılıçdaroğu were the elections to be held on 24 June 2018, the presidential candidate and alliances. The Party Assembly meeting at which the presidential candidate will be settled on in the CHP will take place tomorrow.

WEDNESDAY MEETING WITH GÜL

Karamollaoğlu will also meet with the Free Cause Party General Chair today. Karamollaoğlu, who will complete his consultations in Ankara on Tuesday with Akşener, is expected to meet with eleventh president Abdullah Gül on Wednesday. The meeting at the Good Party will be open to the press.
