Is this why the AKP is intent on pardoning rapists - an AKP MP’s brother?
A connection has emerged between an AKP politician’s brother and the bill to pardon rapists.
Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk has penned an article about the bill to enable a rapist to avoid punishment if they marry their victim. Öztürk says that, if the bill in question becomes law, the brother of Ali İnci, who served as an MP for Sakarya in the previous parliament, Yusuf İnci, will be acquitted.
Ali İnci and his family own the İnci group and wield considerable influence in the region. Yusuf İnci is wanted under an arrest warrant on accusation of having raped a 14-year-old girl and is abroad. If the said bill becomes law, Yusuf İnci will evade prosecution. Ali İnci, whose brother will go free if the bill becomes law, campaigned together in the elections with AKP Kocaeli MP İlyas Şeker, one of the proposers of bill in question. Before the June election, Ali İnci, who had resigned as Mayor of Hendek to become an AKP MP, posed for the press together with İlyas Şeker while they were campaigning.
