Same old story

Following the arresting of two police officers in connection with the killing of Kemal Kurkut at the Newroz celebrations in Diyarbakır, one of them was released by the public prosecution. The second was then released under pre-trial conditions by the court he was brought before charged with possible intentional manslaughter. The provincial governate has suspended both officers from their duties. The course taken by the investigation brings to mind similar past cases in which police officers have been ‘shielded’.
