‘SIGNING A STATEMENT CANNOT BE GROUNDS’

Ankara Regional Administrative Court has ruled in a case brought by teaching staff members who were discharged after their contracts were not renewed for signing the Academics for Peace statement that signing a statement cannot be grounds for expulsion.
It is said in the ruling, ‘There is no public benefit to the procedure whereby a teaching staff member’s term of service is not extended without it having been established that they engaged in an act that disrupts public order or any lack of success having been determined with regard to his or her duty.’
