Ahmet will come out and write again – Şık awarded by Istanbul Medical Chamber

A jury made up of representatives of Istanbul Medical Chamber, Istanbul Dental Chamber, the Human Rights Association, Turkish Human Rights Foundation, Confederation of Public Employees' Trade Unions, Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions and Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects voted to bestow this year’s award on Şık on behalf of the detained journalists. A statement issued by the chamber read: “Detained Ahmet Şık has become a symbolic name in this period in which the principles of journalism have been torn to shreds, the truth is concealed, censorship has become the norm and it takes courage to hunt down the truth. We know that Ahmet will come out and write again, and will chase after the truth again. We believe that Ahmet Şık will have walked free and be among us on 23 May on which the award ceremony will take place and will accept the award with his own hands.”
