Expulsion muddle
Some notable names feature among the 202 people who have been removed from their posts on the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors
With the latest expulsion by the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (SBJP) of 202 judges and prosecutors, who stand accused of FETO membership, the number of judicial staff members to have been expelled from their posts has reached 3,886. Among those dismissed under the latest SBJP decision are seven individuals who were appointed last year to the regional courts of justice. These people also attended the opening of the judicial year held at Erdoğan’s palace.
The SBJP has re-expelled prosecutor Umut Güneş, who was expelled from the profession on 24 August 2016 and readmitted to the profession on 5 December 2016, and former judge Şule Güneş. Also among those expelled are Elif Korkmaz, member of the bench who remanded the prosecutors on the intelligence service lorries case, and judge İbrahim Uyanık, who released the defendant who kicked the nurse Ayşegül Terzi.
