The AKP’s judiciary, indeed

Substantiation of the claim that hundreds of lawyers who are AKP members and administrators have been made judges has come with a candidate’s documents aimed at securing favouritism sent to the wrong place.

A young female lawyer living in Afyonkarahisar, prior to her interview for the post of judge, had her CV and exam result signed by the AKP mayor and AKP sub-provincial chair and sent them to parliament to be received by an MP. The documents faxed by the candidate judge arrived by error at the parliamentary office of CHP Mersin MP Serdal Kuyucuoğlu.
S.G (31), a lawyer registered with the Afyonkarahisar Bar Association, was invited to an interview following written exams on judgeship in the civil judiciary and judgeship in the administrative judiciary. S.G., days before the interview scheduled for 21 April, sent her CV and exam result document to parliament to be received by an MP. The CV, which was sent from the post office at Afyon judicial complex, also bore the signatures of the AKP İscehisar Mayor Mustafa Çibik and AKP İcsehisar Sub-Provincial Chair Murat Dikmen. S.G.’s exam result document, on the other hand, bears the stamp and signature of AKP İscehisar Mayor Mustafa Çibik. Another noteworthy point is that information is also provided on S.G.’s CV about the places where her mother, father and brother work. In the part of the text devoted to education on her CV, S.G. also names the hostels she stayed at while a student and the supplementary education centres she attended following high school as well as the schools she graduated from.
Who was the intended recipient?
The candidate judge S.G.’s papers that she had had signed by the AKP mayor and sub-provincial char arrived by error at the parliamentary office of CHP Mersin MP Serdal Kuyucuoğlu. It is not known for certain which MP was the intended addressee of the documents to which S.G. had appended the AKP chair’s reference prior to the interview. But, considering that a wrong number was probably dialled when the fax was sent, there is a strong possibility that the intended recipient of the fax was Afyonkarahisar MP Ali Özkaya, who is a member of the Justice Commission. The fax number at the parliamentary office of CHP Mersin MP Serdal Kuyucuoğlu is (312) 420 23 73, while the fax number at the parliamentary office of AKP Afyonkarahisar MP and Justice Commission member Ali Özkaya is (312) 420 23 75.
 ‘Installing its own people’
CHP Mersin MP Serdal Kuyucuoğlu, stating that he took a thorough look when the candidate judge S.G.’s CV and exam result document came to him by fax and he saw that the papers bore the signatures of the AKP mayor and AKP sub-provincial chair, said, ‘It is certain that the intended recipient of this fax is an AKP MP and the sender of the fax wanted special treatment, favouritism, in the judgeship interview.’
Kuyucuoğlu, noting that he had concerns over the exams and interviews being held to appoint judges and that lawyer candidates who were former AKP administrators or mayors were being inducted as judges in various places including his electoral district of Mersin, said, ‘The AKP regime is installing its own people into the judicial system on the pretext of purging Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organisation members. These papers, which were sent to me in error with the intended recipient being an AKP MP demonstrate in concrete terms that people affiliated to the AKP are favoured in the induction of judges and at interviews and these exams are entered with references obtained from AKP administrators. We have clearly seen how a young woman who has been a lawyer for five years is asking for special treatment from a mayor and the party’s sub-provincial chair to enable her to become a judge.’
