This path is dangerous

A report compiled by the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Nils Muiznieks, has pointed to the extent to which freedom of expression and media in Turkey has regressed compared to 2011. Muiznieks, stating that violations of rights in Turkey are alarming, noted that courts are defying Constitutional Court rulings and targeting people in the opposition.
In the report, Muiznieks, who stresses that our paper’s columnists and managers have been detained for journalistic activities, said, ‘There is no “crime of journalism” and journalists are prosecuted for other crimes in all cases, but their journalistic activity is often the only “evidence” available to establish such crimes.’
